Companion Story No. 2 | Old Faithful: The Hat I Reach For Again & Again

Of all the hats I've made, there's one I reach for again and again.

It's become my old faithful.

It's the one I have hanging next to the door. From the school pick-up line to concerts and everywhere in between, it has been tugged on by little hands and worn from sunrise walks to late-night dinners.

Most recently, it survived crashing waves while chasing my children along the shoreline. It weathered salty air, humid beach days, poolside afternoons, and a downpour that sent everyone else running for cover. And somehow it emerged looking almost exactly as it had before.

The following weekend, I wore it straight to an expo.

It needed nothing.

No reshaping. No rescue. Just another adventure.

I smiled when someone complimented it, because they saw the hat.

I saw the memories––and the quiet confidence of a well-made companion.

Every crease had been earned. Every mile had become part of its story.

And that's the point.
